What Happened To Thanksgiving

I watched a video today called “A SMOKY MOUNTAIN CHRISTMAS 2021.” It was filmed in the Dollywood theme park in North Carolina and done very well. But, I have one big problem with it. IT IS NOT CHRISTMAS!

What happened to Thanksgiving. Are we so far removed from reality that we no longer feel the need to be thankful for what we have.

Hate me if you want, but I think Dolly should be ashamed of herself for not having A SMOKY MOUNTAIN THANKSGIVING theme first, followed by Christmas the day after Thanksgiving, the way things used to be.

But hey, no money to be made there, right. Being humble and thankful is just foolish nonsense these days.

Or is it? Look at our country. Look at the mess we have created. All in the name of greed.

Dolly, bring back Thanksgiving without covering it up with the Christmas holiday, which has lost most of its meaning as well.

The Overmountain Men


On October 7, 1780, the battle between Major Ferguson’s British troops and the Overmountain Men took place at King’s Mountain, South Carolina. The Overmountain Men used silence and stealth as they ascended the ridge of King’s Mountain to surprise the enemy.

The battle lasted only an hour. Afterward, over 200 British soldiers lay dead, including Major Ferguson. Another 160 were wounded, and roughly 700 prisoners had been taken.

Yes, Patriots turned the tide of the revolutionary war, leading to the freedom that many take for granted today.

Jobs

August 26st, 2021

There are jobs available across America, and people are still signing up for unemployment. This makes no sense to me. A country cannot survive with a population of people who refuse to take care of themselves.

There are only two ways to survive in this world. One, take care of yourself, or two, force someone else to take care of you. The latter leading both parties to misery.

The Cleanup

July 5th, 2021

Another 4th of July party has come and gone in my hometown, and the cleanup begins at my house.

We had a great fireworks show, with some people liking the multi-shot cakes while others preferred the bigger single-shots.

Looking around, I can still hear the laughter of small kids splashing at the water’s edge along the boat ramp while older ones play corn hole. Two brooding fifteen-year-olds hung out at the end of the pier, being too cool to get silly these days. A phase we all go through as teenagers.

The conversations under the shade tree varied throughout the day, with some talking about a cruise being planned for next year while others engaged in an ongoing engine repair job that needs to be completed on an old 1984 pontoon. One of these days, we might get around to doing it. But things happen slowly here in the south.

The night ended with some adults acting sillier than the kids due to a frozen drink machine, but all was well with drivers standing by.

I hope your family had a great weekend as well.

Honor

June 29, 2021

On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress unanimously adopted the Declaration of Independence, announcing the colonies’ separation from Great Britain. 

This July 4, 2021, we have a congress that wants us dependent on the whims of a one-world government.

How sad is that?

As we celebrate this weekend, forget not what the Second Continental Congress gave up for our freedom. 

Forget not that most of today’s Congress walk out of Washington more prosperous than when they walked in.

Forget not their smugness and elect people with honor once again.

Utopia Road

I’ve been visiting towns across North Carolina and seeing ‘Now Hiring’ signs everywhere. So there is no reason for people to be sitting at home sucking off the government teat.

Some are even offering hiring bonuses and training if you need to learn a skill.

There has never been a better time to be a high school or college graduate.

America, do not follow the carrot to Utopia Road. Only the lost live there.
