Fire, ice, and then some

Hello everyone, it looks like it is going to be an interesting end to the week. Extreme wildfire conditions are hammering California, while cold wind and snow hit the Midwest and ice or snow sliding into the southeast and heading North.

Which is worse depends on which one you have to deal with. So go over your preparedness plans if you have one and make sure you are ready for power outages, have some cash on hand, and double-check your supplies. And don’t forget your car kits.

If you do not have a preparedness plan, you can make one from the template on the Americans Networking To Survive website. And if you have not done so already, join our network; it is absolutely free.

Cities – 15 Minute

Are 15-minute cities a good idea? Yes and No. It would be convenient if every part of a city had everything you needed. But ultimately, people in power will use it as a control mechanism.

Get everyone to use transit, and you can control their movements.

Have everyone live in buildings without land, and you control their food supply.

Get everyone to go cashless, and you control their access to money.

I could be wrong, but the man’s chickens in the video below have everything they need, and he makes a good point.

Super-volcanos can erupt at any time

An international team of researchers in 2014 concluded that super-volcanos could erupt at any time without outside triggers, making predicting such an event more challenging.

This is due to a phenomenon called the “buoyancy effect,” which occurs when the molten magma inside the super-volcano reaches critically high pressures due to the much denser rock around it, forcing it to the surface.

Tests conducted at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble, France, suggest that the transition from solid to liquid magma alone can create pressures strong enough to crack more than six meters of the Earth’s crust above the caldera.

Using synchrotron X-rays, the scientists established that a super-volcano eruption might occur spontaneously, driven only by magma pressure without the need for an external trigger.
