They’re all comedians, I thought. Horace, Karen, Jeff, Olivia, Baby Jenkins, the whole lot of them. But the innocents of laughter had been lost by me. The lights would go out soon; I saw no way around it. And the melancholy of it all was beginning to take its toll.
