Everyone wants to find a solution, but in the end, self sufficient families and communities will be the answer, aka small towns in which people have enough land to grow their own food with enough left over to trade with tradesmen who can furnish things they are unable to provide for themselves.

Local will be the way to go, in my opinion, should cheap energy disappear.
